Dear Friends, 

We hope you've been enjoying this beautiful Fall season. This year we closed the Resort on Monday, September 3rd, just after Labor Day Weekend. This earliest closure in the 17 seasons that we've been here was prompted by the Forest Service's improvement project at the Moon Lake Campground and the uncertain disruptions this might have had on our guests. 

At this moment, we are happy to report that the very capable contractors are projecting completion by the end of this month. 

(Keep fingers crossed and knock on wood!!!) 

If all goes well, we are all anticipating no significant disruptions to the 2013 camping season! 

We have to admit that 2012 was a tricky season. Rumors of closures, the actual campground closure, fire restrictions, wildfires and severe drought in the state made it a real day-to-day challenge for us. 

We again want to thank everyone that came up this year and invite all those of you that missed 2012

to come back in 2013. 

Although we closed early, we have remained on site, making improvements and repairs that we have no time for in the operating season. 

This Fall, we have improved roads and trails, painted, patched and paneled many cabins and at last, spent some time working on the Lodge living and work spaces, most notably-old, defunct cabin 6 that is now a clean and organized work space for the maintenance team. 

With these improvements, along with new floors and many new mattresses installed in Spring, 2012 

PLUS the major Campground renovation improvements--

We think it is safe to say that you'll find Moon Lake-Better Than Ever in 2013!

This reminds us that folks have been enjoying Moon Lake for a long time!

As of 6:00 pm on Monday, September 3, Moon Lake Resort is CLOSED for this 2012 season.

We want to thank everyone who came this season - despite campground closures, wildfire scares, campfire restrictions and a drought-level lake
(but we had more hummingbirds than ever!).
None of that seemed to keep anyone from having tons of Moon Lake fun while they were here.
Again...WE are happy and grateful YOU came!

2012 UPDATE

WHY ARE WE SELLING A DREAM COME TRUE ?

As I find myself in our 17th season running Moon Lake Resort and my 60th year of life, I can look back in gratitude for an amazingly blessed and fulfilled life. As I look forward, I envision every moment ahead as "icing on the cake".

When we first seriously considered selling the Resort business (our dream come true) about three or four years ago, we had wildly mixed emotions that ranged from wanting to stay on forever to taking the first exit out. At this point, it's still not much different.

We know how much further we could take the Resort while still preserving it's timeless allure but we also are realistic about how much longer we can do all that work at this stage in our lives. As is so often true in sports and entertainment, we have come to feel it is best to "go out on top" and not try to stay past our prime.

We believe we have set the Resort on a firm foundation for a promising future and we still believe that others with more energy, time and resources would be better suited to taking it there, as soon as possible. That is why we have decided to lower our asking price to

$1,500,000 

(ALL REASONABLE OFFERS CONSIDERED)

Personal choice and life perspectives are our primary motivations to sell and nothing more. Often, when I am asked what I would do after Moon Lake, I simply say, "I don't know but I am sure I will always look forward to moving forward in life. Once it's "been there, done that"- it's time to move on." And so it is for us, now, we believe.

Over the past few years and at a higher asking price, we have spoken to many interested buyers. Some were moonstruck dreamers like we were in 1994 and some were bean-counter bottom-liners with no more vision than a speculator's desire for an immediate return on investment. Adjusting our perspectives with all these others, we have come to this new price with a more realistic assessment of the Resort's value to the right buyer(s) who are as balanced in their realism and romanticism of the place

as we have come to be.

Catching Your Limit!
With the campground empty, fishing has been great this week for the Tracy Family of 5 

who have caught their limit 3 days in a row, trolling on the lake. 

Their secret is Jake's Spin-A-Lure (Fluorescent Red with Black dots).

Well, the Lake may be going down but Good fishing seems to be on the Rise.
The hummingbirds are at peak population right now, too.  Great entertainment!
In other news, a wonderful two hour down pour, complete with hail, helped to ease dry conditions yesterday, cooling things nicely and helping firefighters all over the West.
PS:  Campfires are still allowed here and in the campgrounds, but PLEASE USE CAUTION!

CABINS OPEN THROUGH LABOR DAY WEEKEND (9/3/12) FOR SURE

Dear Friends,
This week we made the decision to keep the CABINS, LODGE and BOAT RENTALS
open through Labor Day Weekend 2012. It has been determined that the
proposed campground improvements will not have a significant impact on the
Resort Operation and we will remain open at least until September 3, 2012.
As of today, we will be taking reservations for CABIN rentals--May 25th
through September 3rd, 2012. Whether we will be open beyond September 3rd
thru September is still unknown at this point.

To our knowledge, the US Forest Service will continue with its plan to
take CAMPGROUND reservations only thru July 29,2012 as improvement work is
anticipated to begin on or around July 30, closing the campground. If the
campground improvements do not proceed as planned, the campground will
remain open on a first-come, first-serve basis.

In an effort to address families who come to Moon Lake and do a
combination of Cabin and campground lodging, Moon Lake Resort will permit
a MINIMAL OPPORTUNITY FOR CAMPING IN CONJUNCTION WITH SELECT CABIN
RENTALS. This will ONLY be an option during the period of campground
closure--July 30-September 3, 2012.

MOON LAKE CAMPGROUNDS WILL BE OPEN IN 2012!!!!

The US Forest Service will keep the campgrounds (both single-site and group campgrounds) OPEN AND RESERVEABLE through July 29th.
Sites are reserveable via the recreation.gov online reservation system
from May 25th through July 29th.
Projected Forest Service improvement work will not begin until (earliest) July 30, 2012.
